The extraordinary talent and skills of ANFF’s client community were on display at our 2022 ANFF National Showcase at the ANU. This annual event is an engaging platform for engineers, researchers, and anyone working in R&D to hear about the innovative research enabled by micro and nanofabrication.

Wally Bell is a Ngunnawal Traditional Custodian and gave a Welcome to Country. It was a true honour to have him call on his ancestral spirits in Ngunnawal language to keep us safe while we live and travel on the lands of his ancestors.

Prof. Brian Schultz, 2011 Nobel Laureate in Physics and Vice-Chancellor of the Australian National University, welcomed participants to Building 160, the Research School of Physics’ new world-class research facility and set the scene for the jam-packed day of presentations.

The keynote speaker for the Showcase was Dr Leanna Read, Chairperson at TekCyte Pty Ltd and Carina Biotech Pty Ltd, previously Chief Scientist of South Australia. Her presentation on ‘The Commercialisation Journey’ challenged participants to envision opportunities for leveraging their research success from the earliest planning stages of their projects.

The Showcase’s focus was on our clients and their Success Stories: twenty-two incredible presentations centred on Technology for the People, for the Planet, and for the Frontier. Their stories highlight some of the many exciting, ANFF-enabled outcomes of 2022.

The final session of the Showcase turned the audience’s attention to industry and commercialisation. Three Industry Case Studies presented by SkinDNA, Archer Materials and MicroTau demonstrated how ANFF has collaborated with its industry partners to promote their ongoing success. A Panel Discussion with four ANFF-C stakeholders on the synergy of research infrastructure and commercialisation served as an amazing wrap-up for the day’s events.

Our CEO, Jane Fitzpatrick said, ‘This has been such an energising day. Bringing so many interesting stories to one place to celebrate what Australia achieves on a regular basis provides inspiration, opportunities and the drive for us all to keep improving the “Foundation of Growth” that ANFF is. I am already looking forward to the next iteration of this event.’
