ANFF supported start-up wins award

Modular Photonics, an ANFF-supported Macquarie University spinout, has been named NSW winner of the Consumer Markets category at the Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA)’s 25th iAwards.

The company was recognised for its glass-microchip devices that increase data transmission rates and reach in legacy optical fibre networks. The company’s devices can boost the legacy fibre-optic links by simply adding a novel circuit to either end of a fibre – enabling a 100 x increase in data transfer speed. Because the devices work by adapting the infrastructure instead of replacing it, they offer a cost-effective way to rapidly update existing networks to avoid the impending data capacity crunch.
